“If it smells strong to you, it may harm a bird’s respiratory tract.” This is a good rule-of-thumb when selecting chemicals and implementing cleaning protocols for a single bird cage to a large aviary environment.  Although it has been traditionally thought that birds lack in the olfactory department, it has been shown that many birds do detect aromas and use them to some degree to select mates, forage for food, and locate nesting spots.

Some birds, such as vultures, seabirds, and parrots have well-developed olfactory glands, giving them more of a sense of smell and taste.

Some chemicals can have a lingering effect, long after smell has faded, so it is important to keep the environment well-ventilated.

Our goal is to provide products, techniques and protocols that are designed to reduce a bird’s negative reaction to the cleaning and sanitation process, while at the same time providing effective solutions and protocols to reduce cross contamination and the spread of infectious agents.
