Whether you are playing with, feeding or cleaning up after a pet, it is important to wash your hands to reduce the risk of spreading germs from one pet to another and reduce the risk of getting sick from germs that both pets and humans can carry.

Always clean hands or sanitize hands:

• After touching or playing with a pet
• After feeding a pet or handling pet food
• After handling pet cages, toys, dishes, etc.
• After cleaning up after pets
• After leaving area where animals are housed
• When transitioning between a well and sick care area
• After removing soiled clothes or shoes

Running water and soap are best for clean hands, but you can use hand sanitizer where running water and soap are aren’t readily available.
